Backward looking sketpicism.

The Secular Web, or "Internet Infidels" represents a constant menace to modern thought, a blight on the face of civilization, and a danger to all rational thinking people who, given the right circumstances, just might come across one of the myriad great words of thought in the Western Tradition, and might just think about the possibility that God exists. The Secular Web represents a taint on modern thought.

Rooted in 18th century thought, most of what one encounters on the Secular we is horribly backward. They are so obsessed with finding contradictions in the Bible, they rarely even consider the Liberal Protestant Revisionary Tradition; thinkers like Paul Tillich, Schubert M. Ogden, and Jurgen Moltmann have totally revitalized Christian thought and letters, once scored and rejected as mere products of the middle ages. Today Moltmann is of great interest to philosophers at Tubingen, Ogden, and his teacher Charles Hartshorne, have put metaphysics back on the thinker's map, and Paul Tillich spawned a whole generation of new ideas about Christianity diverging into process theology and other areas. But the Secular Web is totally oblivious to all of these developments.

Moreover, they are quite behind the times in every assumption they make. They play the "objectivity" card off against the "irrationality of religious faith" as they they have never heard of Postmodernism, or Thomas S. Kuhn, or C. Wright Mills and his phrase "the pretense of objectivity." They merely assume that skeptics can't be biased and must be objective because they worship science, and Christians must always be wrong because they disagree with Richard Carrier.

Nevertheless, the Secular Web has a huge array of these backward thinking articles. It may be easy for the unwary to fall into the trap of actually taking this tripe for real thought. Such an unwary searcher might be led astray before he/she is able to really learn anything of value. Thus, it is in a spirit of academic freedom, and true free thinking (which was a Christian concept before it was a skeptical rouse) we offer these articles. Some of them are written by members of the Christian CADRE (Colligation for Apologetics, Debate, Research, and Evangelism), some are gathered and linked form the net in general and pared off against Sec Web articles because they offer general answers, even though they may not be specifically written to answer that article. It is our Fervent hope that the reader will study these words and reflect upon the greatness of the Intellectual tradition in the West, and the contribution that Christianity has made to that tradition.
